Download Audiobooks with OverDrive Media Console for Windows Mobile


The Listen to Books service just became even more portable with the release of OverDrive Media Console for Windows Mobile.

Now you can wirelessly download audiobooks to your Windows Mobile phones from the Listen to Books website and play the titles with the same features of OverDrive's desktop software. All you need is regular phone reception.

The free OverDrive Media Console for Windows Mobile application works with dozens of Windows Mobile phones. A list of compatible devices can be found on the Windows Mobile website.

The OverDrive Media Console for Windows Mobile digital book application is just the first in a series of releases for mobile devices that will expand mobility and access to library downloads. The Overdrive downloadable book service is actively developing additional apps for other platforms.

For now, if you have a Windows Mobile phone, you can now download for audibooks for free from the Listen to Books service with your valid library card anywhere you have phone reception. We hope you enjoy this new enhanced service.

OverDrive Media Console v3.2 Expands iPod® Compatibility with WMA Audiobooks


On Tuesday, June 16, OverDrive released the new version of OverDrive® Media Console. To download the updated software, click here. All new users will automatically download the latest version, and existing users will be prompted to upgrade to the latest and greatest version of OMC (scheduled for late June).

Nearly all OverDrive WMA Audiobooks in your download collection are now compatible with the iPod®, iPhoneT, iPod touch®, and iPod nano®, as well as Zune® and thousands of other portable devices, with a simple upgrade of OverDrive Media Console to version 3.2 on Windows® PCs.

Premier publishers, including Random House Audio, Hachette Audio, Penguin Audio, BBC Audiobooks America, Brilliance Audio, Tantor Media, and many more, allow this for all of the WMA Audiobooks OverDrive offers. Best sellers such as Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight," Malcolm Gladwell's "Outliers," John Grisham's "The Appeal," and Chuck Palahniuk's "Pygmy" will become iPod-compatible downloads, along with highly-anticipated releases like Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol" and Tami Hoag's "The Trouble with J.J."

In addition to enhanced transfer functionality, the new version of OverDrive Media Console also offers several highly requested features, which allow users to:

  • Send MP3 Audiobooks to the iTunes® Library with Transfer Wizard.
  • Burn audiobook parts to CD in just a few clicks using Burn Wizard--on all supported Windows operating systems.
  • Perform a test burn.

New Features Added to the Listen to Books Service


New Feature Number 1

Introducing eBooks in the EPUB format! Listen to Books now has a collection of Sony® Reader-compatible eBooks in the EPUB format to this catalog! The Sony® Reader also supports the MP3 Audiobooks and Adobe eBooks that you have already been enjoying. Offering small file sizes and the ability to resize text so that it neatly and instantaneously reflows on the screen, the EPUB eBooks available at this site can also be enjoyed on Windows and Mac computers using Adobe Digital Editions.

The Sony® Reader also can read titles available from other services as well as over 500,000 free books available on Google.

# 2) Check out More Titles

You can have up to 5 titles checked out at any given time.

# 3) User Selectable Lending Periods.

You can now check out titles for as little as 7 days if you want. Perfect for shorter books or times when you know you will listen to the title in a shorter period. For example while traveling on vacation or other times when you can listen more.

How do I specify my preferred lending period(s)?

To Set Lending Periods login to "My Account" and click on the "Lending Periods" link

You can set a personalized default lending period for titles available on the Listen to Books site, format-by-format. To set your lending period(s), click the desired number of days next to the format. Click 'Done' once you have selected your desired lending period(s).

Please note that you can also select a lending period on a title-by-title basis. When you check out a title, you will be presented with the default you have set at Lending Periods page, as well as the option to select a different lending period for the title you are checking out.

The New Lending Periods are:

Adobe EPUB eBook: 7 day, 14 day or 21 day checkout
Adobe PDF eBook: 7 day, 14 day or 21 day checkout
Mobipocket eBook: 7 day, 14 day or 21 day checkout
OverDrive MP3 Audiobook: 7 day or 14 day checkout
OverDrive WMA Audiobook: 7 day or 14 day checkout
